Hey!
My husband and I were very fortunate to be able to buy a 1/3 acre of land right in our city! Giving us ample room to have an apiary! One of dreams was to bee keep for the honey! When we found flow hive we talked about it for weeks. Finally one night on a quick whim we bought it. We are hoping in the next few years to jar (can) the honey and gift it to our family and friends along with sliced pears from our pear trees. We are very excited!

Is anyone local beekeeper to Edmonton Alberta, we are looking for educational assistance

Hello!
Just joined, sorry, don’t know how to make a new post:(

Thrilled to see your new invention. Have always wanted to hive bees, but we travel a lot, through countries in or post disaster. Pretty much last 20 years. Now settling parts of the family in Edinburgh Scotland. So, a few questions if I may:

  • I am currently in the far North of Lebanon, helping put together a proposal for ecological restoration of really denuded landscapes. lots of nice ecological landscapes, water harvesting lakes, etc. planned. And wanted to go for bees too! Then I saw your video and I thought: why not just get them started right away on this bee-friendly way?
  • Would you be able to support this project, in principle, assuming it receives funding (we’re applying to the EU).
  • Do you ship all the way to the UK? And could i set up one of these hives with zero bee experience, in my small backyard garden?

All the best,
Magnus

@magnus_wolfe_murray

There are bee projects in the UK which support African countries and setting up bee hives - they mainly use TBH (Top Bar Hives) but these can be converted to use Flow Frames.

Have you thought of crowd funding to get the cash together to buy some Flows - I’m sure if you get some starter cash, you’d be able to negotiate a good deal??

This is the cause my local group raise money for http://beesabroad.org.uk/

Hi Jake

My husband has been involved in looking after bees with his brother for the last three years. This year we have our own hive in our garden. We have been really inspired by your flow hive and have one arriving in December- very excited. We set up our NUC late July as they were only ready for collection then, because we have had such a cold wet summer. Excited about this site as am wanting to learn as much as possible. Thanks to those who have recommended books to read.

Hi all,
Living in France and am waiting for my two Flow Hives to be delivered next February, first time Beekeeper so hopefully get plenty of advice on here.

Hi there!
I’m Diane from Northeast Illinois, actually about 10 minutes from Wisconsin. I am brand new to beekeeping. I saw the Flow Hive indiegogo video this past spring and fell in love with idea of keeping bees. I’ve been reading like a crazy woman trying to ingest as much information as possible while working with a mentor in his backyard. I got my hands on bees last week for the first time and that clinched it for me. I ordered a Complete Hive which is due in February. I cannot wait.
These little girls are so fascinating and man, do they work hard! I’m looking into Russian bees as they seem to have a stronger constitution and better time through the winters with smaller colonies and less stores being used. Our winters can get pretty harsh up here, so I wouldn’t want to subject some Southern bees to them. I’m truly grateful for all of the information you have shared on this forum. You all are amazing! I look forward to contributing more as my education continues.
Diane

Hi Carl. Have you started using a Flow Hive? I’m living in Stockholm, we’re interested in having a hive and we’re considering whether a Flow Hive would be suitable. Any thoughts?

Hi Lizz ,
Its the Captain from down under , just another point or two , I would close up the entrance on your weaker hive to about 1" to enable the weaker hive to defend from robber bees more easily . All the way with Roderick’s suggestions re moving brood to the weaker hive . By now all your results should be in as it is September , With winter approaching , heft the weaker hive to assess the weight , that is lift the back of the hive while the front is on the ground . this will tell you week to week how your stocks are going . I do this without a bee suit on and if you are gentle , there is minimal disturbance . Do this for all your hives -once a week . Feed to retain weight , but do not over feed or that may start a false spring alert and induce swarming . Not good before winter -Cheers

Hi Carl
Indeed, but the honey can be less runny, due to temperature and/or the types of flowers the bees graze on. I’m wondering whether the Flow hive works with all consistencies of honey.

Hi My name is Holly, I live in the UK - Sussex and recently saw your new invention. I am currently a florist and grow my own flowers and think that bees are an important part of nature and the cycle of plants and flowers and really want to learn how to beekeep and its important for the environment! Cant wait to find out more and attend a course and get my very own Flow Hive
