Can I get some advice on what to use to treat my new cedar flow hive to keep it from excessive weathering?

Click on the search magnifier thingy in the top right corner near your profile pic and type in Tung Oil. And hit search. There are many, many articles on this site so settle in for a lot of reading. It will be rewarding though.

Thanks Dawn and others who advised. After reading all the posts, I have decided upon a mixture of pure tung oil and food grade d-Limonene. I live in the US and have found a 50/50 pre-mixed product that meets the requirements at a reasonable price and free shipping. I appreciate the link to the discussion and advice.

Good choice, but you may need 3 or 4 coats if you use the pre-mixed. It soaks in very rapidly, and penetrates more than Pure Tung oil. Not a bad thing, but the finish somehow looks more even with one coat of 1:1 diluted Tung, then one or two more coats of Pure Tung. Your method will work just fine, but you may want to put the effort into multiple coats.
