HI Red Hot !,
Not soooo ! Why would you judge me as a Flow-hive hater ? I spoken my mind about TBH from study, watching a friends experience n watching many vids on You-tide. As for the Flow .., it's just another nice looking 8 or 10 frame Lang system with a neat honey retrieval system super. At present Flow has not been around to get an opinion about. Most people thus far on here are just in their waiting period or working thru their first season.
Returning to beekeeping I am 70 years old n going to use what system I know n have worked with years ago. Flow does have some EASE of harvest features. At my age that simpler harvest means could be NiCE ! Up here in the Pacific NW in our region honey retrieval isn't the features or issue but keeping our GIRLs alive n healthy because of our wet chilly climate. Also providing plenty of winter over honey for our colonies. In Western Washington our first year is spend allow our ladies time to draw out their double brood box combs n harvest the needed Honey for wintering over our first winter. I am more interested in this, having a gentle queen that is northern winter hearty, keeping mites n other pests n diseases minimal ! I don't do well when I am sick n cold either !
Vertical stack methods appeal to my limited space/land needs. Thus TBH would quickly limit how many colonies far below my goal of 4 to 6 max quantity. If I don't run out
of space, time n energy I would like to start n keep several Smaller Nuc's here.
I am also an intermediately skilled woodworker so putting these learned skills back to work in my semi-retirement years. My wife has M.D. so I must do all the house work n cooking as well as care for my 4 hens n garden. I also preserve my own fruit jelly n jams, can fruits n veggies for winter needs. In my spare time I teach ESL classes in a Vietnamese language school. Hope this small biography allows you to see why I wrote TBH look too much work in my opinion. I am returning to the ways my dad n I enjoyed doing bee keeping together.
Now, saying all this ... I am open to what your personal experiences are with Flow, Werre, Langs n TBH method are ! Interested in hearing from you please. We are all learning hopefully from one another n our person needs n experiences..
Have a great bee season ..,
