We split our hive a couple of weeks ago. We looked for a couple of frames that had queen cells and moved in total three frames full of bees into a new root box. However, I noticed there was very little B activity going in and out of this new fruit box and when inspecting the inside today, I found that most beast had died and were at the bottom of the box. See photo. What should I do next?
Hi Frank and welcome to the forum, sorry you’re joining us under sad circumstances tho!
Without more details I can’t be sure, but one guess would be that temps have been too cold overnight for such a small number of bees to keep themselves warm, and/or there was a lot of condensation dripping down on them with cold outside temps and much warmer inside temp. Another possibility is that they starved while working to care for the brood without enough foragers/available forage and low stores in the hive.
I don’t see a photo with your post, so could you try posting it again? Also, it looks like you might be using talk-to-text to write your post and it’s not quite picking up on some of your words I think “root” and “fruit” have been subbed in for “brood” for example…
ok - thank you for alerting me. I will fix this.
Hi Eva, I am trying to “edit” my original post to fix the errors and add the photo but how do I get into edit mode?
After a certain amount of time (24 hours?), you can’t edit a post any more. Just start a new post, replying to your own old post, and most forumites will understand your intent.
Hi Frank I didn’t mean to worry you about your post, it’s fine as is - bad auto dictation happens to the best of us! I was just letting you know in case you’d want to check it.
