My question is I have done several cutouts this year and I wanted to know if anyone can tell me the best way to keep flies from hanging around the hive. The fly’s got so bad on one hive that the bees left
I’s say the flies are indicative of other issues. I don’t try to salvage all the comb and not even all the brood comb in a cutout. I scrap all the honey and about half of the brood. I just do the bigger, nicer pieces of brood comb. Otherwise you may end up with not enough bees to cover and care for the combs which leads to dead brood (which will bring flies) and small hive beetles (which will bring flies)…
