Honey leaking from frames? Due Hot weather? 34C

Inner hole is closed at the moment

Cool, I’d keep it that way and vent the gabled section ASAP as those roof cavities are like an oven on a hot day, much like your house.

If you do choose to open the inner cover hole I would mesh over it as comb built in the roof will get very messy and complicates inspections.

Hey Ryan, you have lots to do already  but I wanted to make a suggestion that could give you a lot of juice for a little squeeze, re your original concern - take off the Flow roof, slap a temporary lid on and put a couple coats of white or light colored exterior paint on the Flow roof.

They are perfect to be used as roof vents in a hive.

They are the ones I use and don’t find the bees wax them up in Winter either. Open the inner roof hole.
You can paint the whole hive during the day except for the front of the brood box, do that after sunset, Plastic paint(water base) will skin in a matter of minutes applied on a hot day and the wood will be hot also. As Steve said put a piece of fly screen over the hole held down with duct tape.
Cheers

Well… it seems my leaking honey from the frames was not actually leaking honey after all! Soooo the day before I had cleaned out the bug tray, and as I was cleaning it I was a little rough with the tapping on the back that I cracked the bottom a little. Anyway I didn’t think much of it, I decided then to do what Ive have seen others do and put a little vegie oil in the tray. Which I did, and then put the tray back under the brood box.

Anyway the stuff leaking out the bottom was just the vegie oil, seeping slowly though the crack I made in the bottom of the tray!

So there was no dire crises after all!

No matter, I still took your advice on a few things. I put up a tarp that shades the hive during the hot afternoon. I ran the over head sprays to see what the bees thought, and it seems they quite enjoyed it. Had a good drink from the droplets on the landing ledge. And wow it really did drop the ambient temp of the area.

So today I went to Bunnings & got some white semi-gloss ext paint with which to give the hive a coat.

So thanks Pete, Steve & Eva. Its good to know there is a brains trust to consult at a moments notice
Here are some progress photos from Day of installing the Super… up till yesterday, Day 15. And 1 of the bees hanging out the front of the hive yesterday…
