Looks like an early spring

I didn’t make an autumn split- I just re-queened my queenless long hive- and it went very well. the new queen is a good layer- and now all the bees have changed colour to the lighter Italian yellow. That hive is very active- I haven’t looked inside it for a few months now. I will be inspecting it soon.

This winter we decided to leave our flow supers on. Halfway through winter I started to wonder if that was a good idea- the frames remained empty with no sign of nectar… now I have turned a corner and there is a winter flow on- the frames are filling quite rapidly! I’m now officially glad I left them on:

Not as much as a early spring, but rather a very short winter.

Queensland’s July temperature was 2.65C above average.

First lot of supers on this morning. They had built out all hives with bridging comb up to the inner cover in the last couple of weeks. Not too surprising considering all the wild flowers we saw on our bushwalk yesterday.

Looks like some splits coming up in a week or two.
