My hive all had insulation on top (scrap fiberglass batting filling a medium super on top of the inner cover) and some were wrapped with polystyrene, some weren’t. All survived.
I only used a pink insulation board on top. Many of our winter days were in the 50s and 60s. Little to no wind (as always). Probably had about 1 week worth of freezing temps spread out. Back in the day the kids actually got to use their snow days. .
Maybe they will consume less with some extra padding. Which then makes me question hives in general. Since well insullated is effective winter or summer, why aren’t hives built in layers? Insulation sandwich.
With the myriads of hives on the market, some hives are designed & constructed of materials that offer better insulation than others. Poly hives for example. Apimaye, another example.
Some of the ladies are showing signs of poisoning! kinda looks like bee parkinsons. Anything i can do besides hold my breath?
Oh no!!! So awful! The only thing I’m aware of is to keep them inside, maybe with some kind of netting for airflow, with access to water? Not sure if it would matter now…
Video? Is it foragers coming back?
You have to follow the link to youtube to get a decent quality.
Well, they’re still alive! Not seeing any with convulsions. Maybe whomever ran out of herbicides/pesticides.
Beautiful color! Did all your wild flowers come back after winter?
A bunch that were not here last year did. i have been pulling them like weeds. Will have to snap some photos. The sunflowers are coming in too. Alternated between blue and gold sunflowers all the way around the fence.
Nice work!
You may find that the yield per frame increases with subsequent harvests.
I corrected it. Fat thumb hit the 1 instead of 2. Those are 2 pound bears.
your flowers looked so nice last year, I can’t wait to see pics again this year.
So about 24.5lbs/12.9kgs from 3 frames? Or 4.3kgs/frame? That’s seems on the high side although I think some users have reported it.
I took these today. Will take some more tomorrow.
Lots of chocolate mint grew everywhere. Smells awesome to walk through.
I also ordered a flowhive2+ today.
