Sorry to hear about your observation tray. It could also be condensation building up? You could try some [_ **diatomaceous** _](https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHBF_enIT710IT711&q=diatomaceous&spell=1&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj0_crLzeTfAhXI_qQKHVATBY4QkeECCCkoAA) earth which could help absorb moisture and also act as a bug trap.
