When Good bees go bad

Just be grateful you got some rain, I think we are up to around 100ml since the end of November down here in Hemmant (between the Gateway bridge and Wynnum). We had a whopping .5ml overnight and .2ml yesterday.

I will see how my hive behaves in 2-3 weeks when I do my next inspection and probably first extraction. Overall I am very happy with my bees temperament.

LOL. Yes, I thought the same thing. For the Aussies, thongs are a type of underwear in America.

Dusty,

Normally we are damp here in the Puget Sound region near Seattle. Last winter 2014-15 was weird n dry. Our snow pack was gone by March instead of June or early July in the Cascade Mtn range. Our Spring was dry n very mild. Summer was a big drought from Canada south thru California. We saw record temps in the upper 90’s F and a few 100’s pluses. That’s way too warm for our coastal region. This year really changed. We are near a 100 plus year record for our winter ! Over 24" in 4 months. We will be green here this summer but our local bees are going out with umbrellas now if they dare to make a trip. So too wet n too dry are both bummer !

Would love to get up that way one day (NW USA and W Canada). The closest I got was Portland on a business trip. needless to say it rained a lot

Dusty,

It’s beautiful up here but you have to get use to the WET n GRAY !. I grew up here so don’t even think about it. We usually have enough partly nice days sprinkled across the calendar to keep
the yard done.

This winter n early Spring have been a challenge. It is the wettest winter in recorded Puget Sound n Seattle Wx history. We are up to 24" plus for last four month quarterly. That’s more than damp even for us .

If ya get a chance our later July n Augusts are the best n some times September/October but no promises. Bees are being challenged this Spring to sprint to the flowers when possible as the next day or two might be Nasty.

Catch ya later,

Gerald.

I find I get more attention if I’m hot and sweaty from working outside. I wonder if my sweat sets them off?

Yes, but before they were scanty underwear, thongs were flip flops in California! Still are for that matter!! Context!!
