Where is My Queen?

@JeffH G’day Jeff if you’re at Budrim do you get honey from the ginger flowers? does the honey taste gingery? We drove through your area in March. We went from Cairns to North Ocean Shores (Byron) where mum lives.

Wanted to go to the ginger factory but ran out of time.

Love your Kooka’s - My mum used to feed them Kanga they wouldn’t come near mince they were spoilt

Hi Valli, thank you:), no they don’t get any nectar from ginger, mainly from surrounding gum & native trees, bush & backyards. Did you see my 2015 ginger harvest? I was originally inspired to grow ginger after a visit to the ginger factory. I recently noticed lots of holes in my lawn, like someone has been airating it with a garden fork. I discovered it was Kooka digging out grubs & he/she gets one every time. Their eyesight must be far better than we could ever imagine. He sits on the bull bar of my old truck or gate post obviously doing a lot more than just sitting there. :) amazing. I’ll ttyl, bye

@JeffH Think its sight and hearing for the kooka’s

I think your right Valli, I love them. I’d love to get a video of one or more “laughing”. It never seems to happen when we’ve got the camera on hand.

Hi All, The weather finally broke where I could do a hive inspection. I lifted off the top brood box to remove the newspaper in between the original brood box, hoping that the bee merge was successful and it was. My little babies chewed right through to meet their new friends. On the frames were loads of brood, queen cells (which I scrapped off) and larva…a HUGE improvement from the last time I inspected. My buddy really helped me out with his frames of bees. They are making up for lost time…YAH!
