I have been working with bees since 1978, used to run 56 hives single handed…so not a spring chicken…l am a cancer survivor so the body is not what it used to be so to make light work of bee keeping, i have switched to a long hive and moved it indoors where i stack it with a flow box , the best thing i have ever done…i have had to reinvent methods to wick moisture from the hive but be able to feed the bees at the same time, all the while keeping weight to a minimum and insulation to a maximum. My choice of bee is apis mellifera mellifera, they can be a bit spicy at times especially when you disturb them otherwise they tick all the boxes as being the perfect bee for the Scandinavian weather. On a more personal note, over the last year, i have been working on building up and testing my ideas to create a non profit organization for cancer/trauma survivors where they can get together and experience bee keeping on a level where they physically able to achieve this even if they are wheelchair bound.
