I’ve kept bees both native and honey bees) on and off in a couple of places for about 20 years. It’s something the family does, but there’s always something new to learn. My recent foray into top bar bee keeping and wild hive eduction/trapouts and lure boxes is an adventure well worth the trouble, because I am learning a lot about the wily habits of wild bees. I’m a hobbyist and keep bees as part of a wide variety of skills I possess in a quiet, calmly paced, self reliant, sustainable lifestyle. Not owning a car and gifted with a resourceful nature, I do everything by bicycle or on foot, including moving bees, the equipment I use, even the hives I build from recycled timber. nothing happens fast, but it sure is a peaceful way to do things.
