When installing bees for the first time, do you recommend feeding? if so, for what duration?

Hi rlyon, welcome to the forum.
Your question is almost like asking “how long is a piece of string”.
It depends on:- whether you start with a nuc or a package & how much forage there is for your bees at the time of installation & going forward.
A good idea would be to join a local bee group & find out what the locals are doing.
If you feed bees during the spring buildup time, you could trigger them to swarm sooner, rather than later. Having said that, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to give them one initial feed to kick them off.
