I recently put in the Apivar strips as the season is ending. I understand that these should stay in the hives for 6 weeks. However, I noticed that I had forgotten to remove last year’s strips which were near the bottom of the brood chamber.
The swarms seem healthy and the honey yield has been good, but is the honey now tainted/unusable as a result of the old strips being present throughout the season?
This is one reference I know of…
** No residue of Amitraz was detected in honey after 10 weeks of treatment , regardless of the date of sampling. This is due to the instability of the active ingredient in an acid environment. Other studies have also proved that the amitraz is fully degraded after 10 days in honey.**
My preference…Still would use it as bee feed.
