I was taught by a WAAS mentor that it is numbered from 1-5 starting from the outside counting in (for a ten frame box). So it goes 1 2 3 4 5 5 4 3 2 1.
Obviously for 8 frames, it will be only 1 to 4.
The drones and honey storage will normally be in 1 & 2s. Broods will be 3 to 5s.
