Hive merge during late fall

Hi there, I have got a second hive of rescued honey bees which suffered a severe devastation from wax moth…result had been a weak and queenless hive, hundreds of bees just on a single frame…now I would like to give them a chance of surviving winter by merging it with another hive…the question is with a newly sourced hive (if I am able to find one…) or with the other existing colony I have? In this case would you leave the super on and then remove the additional brood box once the merge’s completed??
Thanks in advance…

Hi mate, although it may sound cruel, shaking the bees on the ground and removing the hive would be the best option IMO.

Hi mate, I guess that,s what they thought, they absconded… I just open few hours back the hive to double check their status and there were few sucking the sugar syrup left on the bottom board, none was on the frame and they left a bit of pollen store, although not fully dried…hoping for their best…once they vacated completely the hive tonight I will seal it…:frowning:
