What if I hung a bundle of orange blossoms up near the entrance/exit? Or some other kind of lure, like a piece of wood soaked in essential oil?
Bees are very sensitive. I wouldn’t overthink it. Just give them a nice warm, dry home and they will do the rest ![]()

Hi Michael! What happens if you do a split when they’re so close together? Do you move it to another part of your yard?

Even if you put them a mile away all the field bees will fly back to the old location. I generally make the split as close to the original as is practical. Account for drift by giving the new location the queen, and/or shake in extra bees.
