Hi guys, on hive inspection today I spotted what looked like a small hive beetle in the roof cavity - not in actual hive but looked like it would fit through queen excluder if it wanted access. I tried to squish it and missed, so it fell on ground and was unable to find and kill. I can’t see any sign of larvae or other beetles inside hive, and everything else looks good. Do I need to take any action at this stage or just do another inspection in a couple of weeks?
Hi Lisa and welcome.
One SHB is not a problem. So long as you have a healthy hive, your bees will chase them out and even corral them in a small area up near the roof.
Just keep an eye out and squish them whenever you can.
