Hi Beeuu, I would have done the same. Normally:any excuse for the bees to make a new queen with a split, I’ll take it, except right now. I have almost too many nucs to count, on account that not many people are chasing nucs this year.
Interesting you say that Jeff about lack of interest in nucs this year. I suspect varroa is putting people off.
Here I had the same experience. I usually have only two to sell each spring and when I advertise them I get over 10 enquiries for each one and I try to sell to the ones that appear most prepared to have bees.
This year I struggled to sell both and I’m regretting I sold one to a particular buyer, that’s not interested in opening the hives to inspect and have a look, or even learn how to keep them. He keeps messaging me to ask whether it’s time to put the super on and how long to harvest honey. The idiot also transferred the nuc into his hive wearing shorts and ended up in emergency because he got stung multiple times. Pretty sure he’s not registered either but he tricked me.
