What do you think?
It bothers me to see drowned bees at the bottom of the cup with the internal feeder. If i stuff cotton inside the clear ring, theoretically the sugar water should wick upwards and the bees could drink and still have a firm base. Is that doable ? Or a really thin sponge. Thoughts welcome
Have you tried it and found bees drowning? Mine have been perfectly fine with it.
I wouldn’t use cotton balls because bees easily trap their feet in the woolly texture. You could try something like strips of Swedish Dish Cloths. They are made of cellulose and cotton, which is totally organic and non-toxic to bees. They wick very well and hold a lot of fluid. Rinse them out well before using in the feeder:
Thank you for your insight. I will try that product. Anything i can do to reduce unnecessary deaths
…and if you need another feeder, you can use a low dish with folded paper towels to hold the sugar water and provide non-drowning surfaces. I’ve used small plastic food storage containers and even berry box lids in a pinch!
My roof will not completely close when I use this feeder
You can put it inside a super and put the roof on the super.
