Added flow frames and dearth is coming

Ok, we let the bees have the honey last year and they made it through winter like champs. We had a few swarms tho in April and a virgin queen waiting period and finally just put the flow frames on last weekend. We don’t have a long time until the dearth and we fed our bees w a ceracell feeder during this time. Not sure how to handle this as we don’t want the flowframes filled w sugar water. Hoping to get some honey this year from the flowhive, but what to do? Take the super off when dearth comes and put it back in the fall? Or? Thx.

Hiya Metsker, if your feeder is on while the flow frames are on, the bees will likely store sugar water in them. These two pieces of equipment cancel each other out - if you need to feed, then it isn’t a good time for the colony to produce extra honey.

Swarm season is pretty challenging - we’re in the thick of it in my region and I’ve been hustling to keep up! Unfortunately, if your colony swarmed, it’s less likely you’ll get honey from them.
