Bee Photographs

Myself and a fellow beekeeper collected some established natural hives over the weekend (four in total). These are hives that have established over the recent season from swarms that weren’t found/removed by the property owner. The first in the photos was by far the most complex as it was built on a fence with a shrub/vine intertwined like scaffolding through the comb.

They were all successfully re-homed into Langstroth boxes.

Hi all, what do you guys a gals do put adds in the paper for swarm removal. I never get a chance to even see a swarm let alone get one.:disappointed:

Craig’s List is another choice - free if you are a non-professional. My club also has a list of people on their web site willing to do swarm removal.

I was offered an easy cutout last week, but I have no hive space right now.

thanks @Dawn_SD have to put me a add on Craig’s list to get me some of them freeeeee beeeeeeeeee’s.

Just in from hiving 3 more swarms. We’ve captured 9 out of 10 so far! I love swarms because they are wax building machines that require no feed.

I assume that’s because from what i’ve read they gorge on honey before they leave the “parent” hive?

Absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing how to curiosity, how long has the flow frames been on your hive? I just put mine on about 10 days ago. I plan to open the hive up later this afternoon to see if any progress has been made on the flow frames. I see a lot of activity from the observation window as well as from the access side of the flow frame. Do not see any fluid being placed. I do think, I see some wax being placed to seal the cracks, not totally sure though.

Again beautiful photos, thank you for sharing

@Martydallas Nectar is being deposited in mine  Here’s a picture through the viewing window I took this morning.
I apologize for the quality - I used my cellphone

Around 11 weeks I think. We just removed them for winter- we harvested 15+ kgs during autumn. Can’t wait till spring now!

I feel sure your frames will soon start to fill

how long has your flow frames been on?

Mine have been on almost 2 weeks. We’re just hitting the tail end of the Blackberry, Privet and Tulip Poplar nectar flow here @Martydallas.

I opened up the hive yesterday after your post. I am seeing the flow frame joints being filled with wax. looks almost solid. Not seeing any deposits of fluid yet like in your photo. Flow frames have been on for 7 days this far.
