Bee Photographs

Is any one using Go Pro camera for Flow-hive photos n installing their bee for video.

I know one person on here got one for Christmas. They might post some in the spring when the bees wake up

Hi Gerald,

I believe @DextersShed used a GoPro camera a lot. Unfortunately he doesn’t seem to be on the forum any more. Maybe @Dee can take over for us!

The one problem I have with most GoPro videos is motion sickness. I am very sensitive and the swinging around view gets me looking away after about 30 seconds. I much prefer the style that @JeffH and Wilma use for their videos - Wilma has an amazingly steady hand, and always makes very gentle panning and zooming motions. Anyhow, I am a bit odd - I am sure that we will get some great GoPro footage to learn from!

I place my Camera around my neck - problem is I caught the lens diaphragm and pulled it off - No a Go Pro A Cannon G15 Powershot - Quite a good all round Camera which is superseded with the G16 I think.

Will post some more Videos in Spring

No not me, Dawn.
Not interested in filming the bees and I don’t ski or snowboard or anything else people use them for.

Or Skydive which is what my son wants one for

Morning Dawn,

Thankz for the Go-Pro feed back. I agree the swinging motion of any camera can or does detract from a good presentation. I done some level of photography since i was very young (about 60+ yrs now). I did professional work for 35+ yrs of mixed wedding, portraiture, modeling, product n scenic stuff. Most of this was older B/W then color film era. I’ve been slowly working at the digital mode now as its to new medium in the World of Photography.

I hope to use my Nikon for most stills but was not sure the best n handiest for best n effectiest vid medium. The newer GoPro has to modes ( one the wider near fisheye style for wide view n a more narrow mode for more normal vids)… ƍt pricier but not as much as my economy end Nikon. Not sure I would want my pricey one out where it could get tripped over. Even my I-phone does good to very good for a phone. Quality of cameras mode in phones has greatly improve but need remote n tripod if I used it much but great for quick pix’s to post.

Thankz for the input n thots everyone. I’ve got couple months to nail this down yet so give me any feedback or thots.

Shutterbug in Coalfield,
Gerald.

Not brave enough me. I watched daughter bungee off a bridge in South Africa once and that nearly killed me.

Hi Dawn Wilma here. We are constantly reviewing my photography and trying to get rid of things that we find irritating. Thank you for your comments.

I have a JVC video camera and the panning is certainly the hardest thing to master, well apart from panning and zooming at the same time. Everything else is pretty automatic and I generally filmed in HD which is brilliant.
After a few years though now, I have gone back to stills and a new Canon compact. I thought my pans were dead slow and dead steady but my wife still gets sea sick watching them. So Xmas lunch is about all that gets videoed now.

Thanks Gerald, good tip!

I ordered my 3 Nuc’s back in October. I kept bugging the supplier so much they just took my deposit n started their order list that weekend. :yum:

having bees has made me plant some bee and bug friendly plants… so its rewarding to see some bugs around that you haven’t seen in years…

this lady bug for instance

after I put the bees into the new flowhive I gave them some sugar nectar… they pumped it in there so hard they had to get the air flowing to dehydrate it with bees on doorway buzzing their wings as hard as they could go

this little bee worked herself to death dying just short of the hive with pollen still on her legs…
now that’s dedication… you can’t help but admire them and to try and give them the best life that they deserve

after only three days the bees are starting to come up from the brood box and into the flow frames

once they start capping I’ve got a couple of sites on my list to make them eat their words

Are there supposed to be those gaps between the lines of plastic cells?
Sorry if I’ve missed this on another thread…

@Dee Yes Dee apparently it helps when the Flow is opened and protects the cell integrity

Does the honey flow down to the bottom cells?
PS…Ahhhh I suppose the bees fill the gap with wax…silly me

yes you can see them inside the cells there preparing it 100% so that they can use it…

can’t do all the work for them…

don’t want them to get too lazy

Hi Andrew, that lady bug looks like a ā€œ28 Spotā€ lady bug, one of the lady bug pests. I squash them whenever I see them.

you have to be kidding me

I didn’t know there was such a pest… :disappointed_relieved:
