Bee Photographs

Ah…lovely

Lovely too
What nice jars.

Beautiful honey, congratulations! Di you crush and strain?

Dawn

we used a 2 frame honey extractor that I purchased off ebay…

we have another one coming from china and if it is of excellent quality we’ll think about bringing in a full container of 2, 3 and 4 framed honey spinners… both manual and motor type

with the two frame spinner we had to use a counterweight on the other side to smooth out the rocking… I also took the handle off and used a battery drill to spin the unit… lol

one of my daughters got me those from “cheap as chips”

I think it was…

by the way… I would say that that honey was from spring flowers like lavender etc… tastes a bit like leatherwood honey but nicer and sweeter

I would say that my all-time favorite honey is lavender. As we visit southern France fairly often, it is readily available there. Not much in southern California though. We have around 30 lavender bushes near our house, but I don’t think that is enough to interest our bees! :smirk:

Never see bees on our lavender unless there is absolutely nothing else. Maybe it’s like heather in that respect difficult to forage? Lots of bumbles though but they do have longer tongues.

@Andrew sorry … didn’t anyone tell you Beekeeping is addictive LOL

Nice Honey!

Well done Andrew:) I see you got that honey from one frame, it’s a bit of a challenge spinning one frame in a 2 frame extractor.
I’m happy spinning it by hand. It’s a nice little bit of exercise.
Good luck with everything Andrew, cheers

i think the lavenders I mainly have in my garden are Italian Lavenders… when in bloom they have a couple of leaves coming out the top…
as soon as they are in bloom the bees are all over them including native bees like the blue banded bee which I have never seen until now…

the other bush that they love is the hebe Bush… once in bloom they are all over them…

also poppies is another good one, see above for pics… and there’s another spring plant that I put in the garden that has an open flower, the Garland Flower, the bees loved them… the flowers start opening from the bottom and work their way to the top then die… they have just nearly all died now after weeks and weeks but the bees have been on them all day every day

that’s them!! :slightly_smiling:
as soon as they have colour on them… bam! … bees are on them…
thanks valli
I also have the pink ones

btw… show us a pic of your Label …

this is the one I’m thinking of using but with the river name and Honey written on it

Limits with Bees?

There is no such thing. grin

Small suggestion?
Take out the wall and definitely the washing line.
You need a beehive somewhere prominently?
I’m in the middle of a watercolour for my label

well…

I can pull the clothes line out of the ground but it’ll take me a day or two to pull the fence down…

that’s an old pic of my back yard some years back before I had the hives… the hives are behind that fence… I wish I was smart enough to superimpose a couple of hives along that fence :frowning:
the ole Hills hoist clothes line is as Australian as Meat Pies

Just narrow the field of view

My Bees in their new home (Bees courtesy of @Jeff). The only trouble is, it looks kind of lonely

Well done Shelley::wink: that looks fantastic. A second normal hive might look a bit out of place there. There’s a bloke on this forum trying to sell one, on second thoughts, I think he’s trying to sell 2. I’m waiting for it to cool down so I can return some stickies & pick up some more honey. I don’t like my chances of it cooling down, it’s supposed to be getting hotter after tomorrow. I’ll get going, thanks for the photo & comment, cheers.

Looks nice Jeff … Soon it will be active with buzzy bees. N the work n learning begins in intensity ! Good luck. Keep a running record/log because it helps. My brain soon forgets the minor details… Gerald.

Action ! Interesting swarm vid ! Were you able to curtail their need to swarm or what did you do ? Been a few years since I was in the middle of one of these progressing. Good flix ! :ok_hand:. Gerald.
