Don’t start me again Peter.
Not sure what your talking about Greg, I’m not pressing your buttons and only passing on information based on my experience. If you don’t agree your entitled, as I am, to pass on advice, aren’t we?
If the screw is not there to position the frame correctly what is its purpose?
Cheers
Hi @HappyHibee, thanks. I’m hundred percent certain it is an authentic flow hive bought direct from the Australian Flow website, and there are no plastic strips at all. I wonder whether we are missing something.
If you are referring to the side pieces that run vertical in each corner, about 1cm wide, ours (both my hive and my dad’s) are not plastic. Maybe a different model has them in plastic?
I will push the frames back and see whether that improves things. Thanks all for your help.
this is what was on the invoice, bought May last year, it was advertised as “last season’s stock” but had the 2015 supporter campaign inscription on the side, so 4 years old:
Ha, that explains why the hive was so poor. Many had issues with their founding boxes, myself included.
To Flows credit they did try to rectify these issues however due to the overwhelming support they received they were under the pump.
If that’s the only spot, jam some propolis there. The bees would probably do that eventually… you can see they’ve started sealing against the crown board and flow frame already.
Hi Perth,
Sounds like your super box is a bit problematic but hey look at the lovely honey you son got even with the issues .
The flow frames should be tight to the front and the little adjustable screw at the top rear of the flow frame can be adjusted out to take up the slack.
The plastic shim (see attached picture) in all 4 corners that runs top to bottom is designed to also keep the flow frames tight together so is goy don’t have these order some or make them if you can.
How old is your son?
Replied to Perth buddy. Sounds like a few minor requirements
Yes we have those corner shims, but wooden. Today I checked all flow frames are touching the rear panel. A couple of them had to be pushed about 2mm.
That gap I showed in the photo above is still there. Maybe a tiny bit smaller but bees can still come out. I think it has to do with the defects in the discounted old stock wooden super.
Dad is saying that maybe he can make the crown board a bit thicker horizontally to plug that hole.
