Bottom tray deposits

Hi everyone, it is Springtime here in Western Australia.
I removed the bottom tray to improve air circulation and found a variety of deposits of various colors and sizes. These are more prominent at the entry end of the tray. Not sure what is going on but have included a photo to show you what I mean - limited to just the one picture.

Hope someone can advise me

Ken

Hi Ken, what I’m seeing is normal for a hive with a bottom tray. I would suggest to clean the tray once a fortnight, then especially after you harvest honey. I prefer a solid floor, that way the bees keep it clean, plus they can use any pollen or wax flakes that drops onto it. I’m not keen on giving bees added ventilation during hot weather, on account that bees air condition their hive via the entrance. Added ventilation only works against them in their effort to do so.
