24.72mm would roughly translate to 1" outside diameter. So depending on the fit, 3/4"ID tubing generally gives you 1"OD.

Yes, that is what has happened to ours I am sure, put in a safe place, which seemed logical at the time, but we have been to all the logical places.

Trouble is Faroe, we have no tubes at all. With even 1 tube we would just do one frame at a time.

Tubes are 100mm Long

25mm wide

21 interior width

a one inch tube will fit properly over the tube

We designed it so a flexible tubing with a 25mm outside diameter can be inserted directly into the frames. If the tube has a 2mm or more wall thickness, this will sufficiently block the honey leak back point if inserted all the way.

Assuming that you are in the US (your profile doesn’t say), I found these two choices, both of which fit the Flow tubes, and are recommended for household water use:

The second one is FDA approved, but a bit more expensive, as it has braided walls.

Be aware the braided one may be less flexible, might therefore not bend into your collection jar. We went to a water pump specialist here in NZ and told him it was for honey so he sold us something food grade. Smelt terrible but didn’t affect the flavour of the honey. It fitted over the outside of the tube (rather than trying to cram it up the inside) - the inside measurementof the tube was 25mm.

The best technique I have ever used back in the day of installing aquariums and plumbing is if it is a fairly shot piece put the braided tubing into boiling water, when it is hot and pliable shape it how you want it roughly and then plunge it into ice water. It will lose some of that shape but should retain enough to work for you. Obviously do this with gloves.

Do you all have the Inner Diameter/Outer Diameter needed for the food grade PVC tubing? I want to order some online so won’t have the chance to fit it to the Flow Hive tubes – those of you that have already used some for harvesting, would you let me know what size works best?

I’m out of town but wound up ordering a whole case roll myself and it fit perfectly. Problem is I’m not home and don’t expect to be for a few weeks yet, so can’t help you out on size because I don’t remember it precisely. What you can do is measure the outside diameter of one of the tubes and then order the tubing based on inside size.

I’m going from memory, but I think it’s 1" outside. You can measure the tubes that come with it. Inside diameter is irrelevant.

You want an internal diameter of 1 inch or 25 millimeters. I found most online sources very expensive (often over $100), so I went with tubing from Home Depot which is approved for drinking water use.

The outer diameter doesn’t really matter, but thicker walled tubing will be stiffer and you may find it a little trickier to position near the hive.

Other way round - the tubing goes over the rigid Flow tubes. The ID matters, the OD does not. The ID you want is 1" inside. :blush:

I think Michael may have been referring to the OD of the Flow rigid tubes, which is indeed approx 1" or just over 25 millimeters. Still consistent with what I said above - for the flexible PVC tube, you need 1" or 25 mm ID for the part that you are adding to the Flow tube.

That just makes things more complicated. I put my tubes IN the flow frames and did not use the rigid tubes at all. That’s just six more pieces to mess with.

Interesting. All of Flow’s photos show the PVC tubes outside the rigid plastic tubes. How did you recreate the little lower lip at the bottom of the rigid tube which prevents leakage back into the hive? Is it not really needed? Very curious about this. Thanks! :blush:

I’ve used pvc tubes attached to the flow rigid ones and the weight on the rigid tube meant the lip didnt stay snug and led to leakage back into the hive.

I just shoved them up into there. The tubes are flexible. You could cut the lip on it if you want. I didn’t have any issues.
