Hive wood choice

Hi all,
I am about to purchase a flow hive but need some direction about which wood to choose. I was thinking either cedar or paulownia as we get very cold winters (minus temperatures and snow) and would love some help deciding. Thanks in advance!

Hi Lisa, my choice would be cedar. It is a stable timber and will last many years with a couple of coats of paint or timber oil. Paint/seal the outside and exposed edges only, I don’t paint the inside of mine.
Cedar is also used for windows and door frames that are subject to weather conditions.
Keep in mind that cedar would be the most expensive choice, but hey, you get what you pay for.
Cheers, G
