Just got back from home after being away for a week and noticed some larvae in the pest management tray. Do they look like small hive beetle larvae?
I installed the nuc in November and added the super once all the frames were drawn out just before Christmas. The bees are busy working on the flow frames and there are a few beetles in the super. I’ve just cleaned the tray out and added some new oil.
Is it worth inspecting the brood box to see what is happening?
The grub in the top photo looks like a hive beetle grub. I’m fairly certain that the grub in the bottom photo is a wax moth grub.
Definitely do an inspection of the brood, on account that hive beetles love to breed in the wet muggy weather we’ve been having lately. I’m in Buderim.
If there is activity in the brood that would result in such an advanced larvae, as in your top photo, there should be an unpleasant odor wafting out of the entrance. If you smell that, don’t hesitate to inspect, because hive beetles work fast at sliming out a hive, which will cause the colony to abscond
