Mildew in Hive lid

I am running three Flow Hives, 2-8 frame and 1-10 frame. Only the 10 frame has the mildew issue which could be due to the driving rains we have been having. Pretty eliminates water sitting on the flat Ply lid type, and the plywood is notorious to delamination. I have one Langstroth hive for expansion if needed.

Most Standard bee keepers feel the Flow Hive keepers just steal the honey and don’t inspect their brood boxes. This is not so. The entire hive is inspected every 2-3 weeks to ensure the health of bee’s, frames, and supercells.

Since I live in Anchorage, Alaska, it is my intension to Winter all three hives. Few bee keepers go this extra mile for their bees.

Once successfully wintered, the bee’s are considered “Alaska Bee’s.”

So my suggestion that the roof is replaced is somehow construed as implying that

Crikey!

No Maam, your solution was an appreciated suggestion and the flat lid would make it better for synch strapping down (bear proofing). I do prefer “the pretty look” though

I was carrying a conversation for other readers to view who may look down on the newer bee keeping process.

Thank you for your insight.

Ok you’re forgiven

I think it was aimed at me. But I am keeping my head down and my fingers zip-tied.

I heard Cedar say recently that 40 % of Flow Hive owners have previously owned another sort of bee hive.

Thanks!
