Hi, looking for some advice please. Seem to have mould in the flow frames and cannot remove it. Have tried jet washing, scrubbing with diluted bleach and using a cotton bud but no luck. It seems to be in a few of the frames. We removed the outer frame which was the worst affected. We have removed the tray underneath to improve ventilation. It is not a thick mould but like a black layer in the cells. We check the hive frequently and there is a healthy population. There is honey and activity in the unaffected frames.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Any chance of some photos? It is very hard to know what you are dealing with unless we can see it. Many people here would love to help you, but photos make that much easier. Hi - Iām new, so confirm the safety of this with a more experienced bee keeperā¦but vinegar is the best for killing mold in a porous environment like fabric or wood. Bleach will break down fibres and material. Bleach is the most effective on smooth, non porous materials. You donāt need any special vinegar, just plain white vinegar you get from the grocery store. Your hardware store might have something called ācleaning vinegarāā¦sometimes itās a stronger vinegar, sometimes itās the same strength you find in the grocers but not āapproved for human consumptionā. Just be sure that itās 100% vinegar. You can dilute it, but I donāt bother most of the time. I used this on a canvas tent, side of the house, concrete, etc. Be sure to use gloves because it is a mild acid (not a base as many think) and extended contact can make your skin tender. Allow to air dry. It will not fix the mold discoloration, but it will kill the mold.
