Moved hive bees lost

Hi folks. I am another newbie in this journey and think I may have created a problem. Three days ago I moved my hive about 30metres to a better location away from house lights etc. Move was undertaken in the early morning before sunrise. The setup only took about 10 minutes and I then opened the door so to speak to allow them to do their thing. The problem is I think the foragers didn’t take notice of the new location and have returned to the old location. My question I suppose is, will they eventually find home or should I be taking steps to capture and relocate them? Thanks in advance

Hi Lee, welcome to the forum.

30 meters is quite a big shift in one go. You have a golden opportunity to do a split seeing as we’re (I’m in Qld) into spring. You could remove 3 frames of brood, place them in a brood box & allow the returning bees to populate it.

Otherwise you could take the main hive back, then commence moving it gradually, one meter per day until you reach your destination.
