I’m new to beekeeping and had a full deep frame of honey that was uncapped for about 3-4 weeks.I was too impatient and worried they would never cap so I harvested it. Houston is a very humid climate so it just wasn’t ready and I ended up with wet honey. But since it was only one frame I poured it into some shallow dishes and stuck it in the food dehydrator for 5 hrs until I got it down to 17 water content. I put plastic wrap and tape around the sides of the dehydrator because the dishes were taller than the trays. Worked like a charm though and wanted to share in case it helps anyone else. Only practical for very small scale obviously.
Well done Amy. What was the water content before you started?
You gave me an idea: We’ve been using our dehydrator to dry moringa leaves, before powdering them. Maybe I could make moringa infused honey, that would work.
It started about 23.
Sounds like a cool idea. Does moringa have a flavor that would work well with honey
We use dehydrated honey to flavour chocolate. You have to take it to the dry crystal stage.
I’m actually right there with you all mine was capped but ended up with 21ish after extracting so now’s it’s in the food dehydrator….lord I hate Houston weather sometimes so much dang humidity
I also just harvested fully capped honey at 21 so I guess I’m drying it out again. Houston has been so humid! This time I wrapped aluminum foil around the dehydrator gap and that was more effective than the plastic wrap. Honey in small jars also removes a step.
