Should I Tongue Oil my western red cedar hive?

#1

Hi Group

I have just finished assembling my western red cedar Flow hive and I am a novice to bee keeping…just a new Sydney suburban to be bee keeper!!!

Do I need to tongue oil this hive???

Do I need to paint the roof with a weather proof paint or???

Advice would be much appreciated

Merry Christmas to everyone on this Forum page

No just brush it on. It is not that tasty.

Just click on the magnifying thingie, top right corner, put “Tung Oil” in the search box. There is plenty on this.

Yes, without a doubt, paint with tongue oil a few coats. I also applied roofing silicone along the joints of the roof panels to keep rain out and that works a treat.
