Howdy everyone,
So just putting a torch out there for anyone here that is from South Australia in Australia. I’m in the hills myself but it would be good to get some contacts from all over.
Cheers and regards
Nick

I can tag @Semaphore for you. His location is in his handle. We haven’t heard from him for quite a while, so hopefully something on his computer might alert him to my tag.
Thanks again Jeff ![]()
Hi Nick, Im in the Adelaide hills also.
Howdy… where abouts in the hills? ![]()
Residing in Nairne with two hives. Would like to build up to a third once the 2024 spring season hits.
Hi Guys,
My name is Zoran and am new to beekeeping. Purchased my first nuc at Christmas and unfortunately haven’t had much luck. The nuc had chalk brood so i replaced all the frames which fixed the chalk brood issue but seemed to weaken the colony.
Ultimately they swarmed a few months back and all my efforts have been for naught.
I definitely want to try again (a little earlier in the season this time) but don’t want to have the same issues.
Any recommendations on where and when to either purchase a nuc or find someone who is splitting a hive?
Thanks ![]()
Welcome to the forum Zoran,
It really does sound you were given a nucleus that wasnt up to scratch quality wise. Reputable Beekeepers that have a good rep will ensure that they dont allow the transfer of pests and diseases to the best of thier ability.
That said, ive personally found some sources to be questionable, especially from the likes of Gumtree where your often potentially buying from a source with limited information. when i was starting a few years back i had a beekeeper pushing me to commit to a purchase. This of which was a red flag in itself. So i ended up walking away from that consideration.
Its a tough learning curve having the colony impacts youve had but from now on you will be looking for the best quality colony you can get your hands on.
I dont know where you are in the Adelaide region but if your anywhere near inglewood then contact Matt Thomas from inglewood Bees. He is also a flow hive resseller these days. All information regarding his services can be found on his website - https://inglewoodbees.com.au/
(Links provided are from a recommendation purpose only through personal experience of Matts services).

Thanks Scol,
He was one of the people i reached out to, I just selected the wrong breeder in the end. I will reach out to him again ![]()
