Bees exiting at rear of brood box

I think you all are talking about two different metal strips. The one provided to be attached with screws goes on the Flow box. The thin metal strip you’re seeing on the bottom board is attached at our factory. The thin metal strip with the bend on the bottom board is really just there to protect you from the screen that’s attached behind it.

Thanks Matt - so any ideas why the bottom board might be warped?
Mark

It’s the thin piece of cedar lathe that goes across the back of the bottom board that’s warped from the image that I can see, correct? We’ve not had other reports like this yet, but we’ve sent 10,000+ so far! It didn’t appear damaged/cracked at all when you unboxed? I ask because the metal below it looks bent a bit, too, but that could simply due to warping.

I didn’t notice any problem on receival. It all looked good. I didn’t look closely even after putting it all to together. I wasn’t looking for gaps. Just admiring how good it looked!
It was only after putting the nucleus into the brood box that I saw bees coming out of where they shouldn’t be coming out! I had a good look yesterday afternoon and without taking the brood box off, the bottom board didn’t seem to be cracked, just warped. Placing some thick/stiff plastic sections into the gap seems to be working for now.
Thanks for your interest.

Didn’t directly answer your last question - apologies.
Yes, it is the top section of the base, that the brood box sits on. And the metal strip just follows the bend in the timber. At least that is how it looks to me.
I am thinking of lifting off the brood box and having a good look, but the bees won’t like that!

Yes I was off on the wrong metal strip. That strip in question is so thin there is no way it would
have any impact on the wood. I now go with the common thought that the wood has warped or perhaps bent during construction if it was a fraction long and squished to meet the the size.

Hi all. I am so impressed with the guys at Flow Hive. A new bottom board is on its way to me!
Thanks for your comments on my problem. Hopefully it will all be sorted very soon.
