Can a Flow Hive be in an area where there are yellow jackets & wasps?

we are new to bee keeping, haven’t purchased a Flow Hive yet, but want to… we live in a rural setting and we have a lot of hornets, wasps and yellow jackets… is this something we should be concerned about? If so, how do we get rid of them so we can start a Flow Hive?
Thank you SO much!!

Generally a strong bee hive will be able to defend itself if the entrance(s) are appropriately sized and the colony size is proportional to the size of the box. The bees should be able fully cover all the frames in the box.

Remember that the wasps and hornets perform valuable functions controlling pests and pollinating and if there is something easier for them to eat they will generally leave the bees alone.

However, if you notice a wasp/hornet nest is close proximity to foot traffic or to the bee hive then it may be helpful to remove these nests for personal safety.

Welcome to the forum! I’m in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia PA & we have lots of these around too. As Alok said, they will probably continue about their normal business and ignore a beehive, like they do in my yard even a few feet away.
