Ceracell feeder fit on FH

I got a ceracell feeder in prep for new nuc but it’s a wee bit bigger than the FH2 box. May just buy a flat hive lid vs messing w whittling it down to fit but my real question is will bees be able to access corner feeding ports if they don’t perfectly align w the FH brood box? Also reading mixed advice re inner lid above or below feeder.

I use the ceracell feeders with all my flow hives. The challenge I have is that I cannot put the flow hive gabled roof over it because the box is indeed slightly bigger than the roof. I bought a traditional telescoping roof for all three and I use it only when I need to feed the bees in late summer and all throughout winter.

From an inner cover perspective, I’ve tried it different ways. I’ve put the ceracell feeder on top of the brood box with no inner over the feeder. The bees had no issues getting to the corners at all.

In the winter time, I’ve tried a few different options with the inner cover. I’ve put the inner cover over the brood box, the ceracell feeder on top, took off the middle cover of the feeder, and put the telescoping roof over it. The bees didn’t touch the winter feed I left up there. I’ve also put the feeder on top of the brood box with the middle cover off of the feeder and put the inner cover on top of the feeder and the telescoping roof over that. What I don’t like about that order is that because the ceracell feeder sits on top of it’s box and not flush with it. As a result, when you place the inner cover over it, it creates about a 2-3mm gap, which allows smaller pests to potentially enter the feeder and the hive.

Ideally, the ceracell feeder should sit flush on the housing box, but only if there were grooves made into the box. Hope this helps!
