Combining a package and a queenless hive

I have a queenless hive. I do not have a frame of brood to put into the hive. My question is can I purchase a package of bees and use the newspaper method to combine the hives? My plan is to put the package on top of the current brood boxes with newspaper between.

What I would do is let the package get established first, at least until the queen has laid some eggs because if you combine the package with the queenless hive, there’s a chance that the bees from the queenless hive might ball & kill the queen after they unite.

Are you in a bee club?, if so, you might find someone willing to sell a frame of brood. Being that you’re in spring, someone might be happy to sell a frame of brood as a swarm management strategy, which will benefit both parties.

PS, I copied this link.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjS8YaP6JzwAhVI8HMBHfcBDrcQFjAAegQIBhAD&url=https%3A%2F%2Fnashbee.org%2F&usg=AOvVaw3BoE4ehCdzix4CsLpTfjYo

Four of the five reviews were all very positive. The fifth one was a neighbor upset about all the bees flying around & thinks that bees should be banned in neighborhoods.

I looked at the photos in the photo section on the website & it appears that at least one member has a flow hive & looks to be very happy with it.

cheers

You’re welcome Jessica, it’s great that you were able to find the old queen. You should be back on track now, fingers crossed.
