Nice work, Claire! I don’t know if it’s just the way the picture looks, but it seems like not much clearance between the back of the hive and the fencing. My first setup was about two feet from some shrubs in the back, and it got to feeling kinda tight back there during lengthier inspections and wearing a full suit! I’ve since moved my benches to where they have more like 4 or 5 feet to maneuver behind. I like being able to pull my garden cart with all my gear - and for offloading chunks of burr comb or frames - right up behind the hives. That’s just me, though - I know lots of beeks do just fine with smaller spaces.
Thanks, Eva! I can move the hive up more toward the front. It’s tight back there, but there’s enough room to get back there to see what’s going on. There’s a 3’ drop-off on the slope right behind it, so there’s no way to pull a cart up to the back.
This little Langstroth is a temporary solution until my Flow Hive is ready, which still needs to be assembled and sealed. Then someday it will be my second hive – which is all I’m allowed to have in my space. There’s a nice work area in front of the hive, so I think it will be OK (keeping my fingers crossed!) In any event, it’s fun!

Looks good
Thank you, Sam

@claire_c You’re welcome
I know this is off the subject, but it’s related to my larger habitat project. I just posted the first story about a hummingbird nest. I’m going to post stories about my adventures and misadventures on my beekeeping journey. Here’s the link: https://golden-crane-habitat.org/
