Been seeing a bunch around lately (SW US) and I read that their larvae attack bees. Did some quick searches and haven’t found anything that specifically calls out honey bees as being at risk - seems to be mostly ground bees.
That the same as Small Hive Beetle (SHB)?
I’m talking about these guys (they don’t look like SHB, unless SHB is an adolescent stage).
No, I;m pretty sure SHB is a bit rounder. But I am no entomologist. That looks more similar to a lightning bug to me.
This is what their larvae do to bees. Shudder! Imagine seeing those on your bees!
Wow, that IS amazing. It must be a native species that preys on native bees in that area.
