I had to chuckle reading about your observation hives and the issue of rambunctious grandsons. It made me wonder if you had ever considered the design of an observation hive for the boys. And how your would calculate ‘boy space’…

I would love an indoor observation hive! We get a lot of bears and this would keep them safe. The kids would also love to watch the bees. Please let us know if you come up with a design incorporating flow!
You still need another support hive. But as to building one, I have plans at the bottom of this page here:

You will need to figure out how the height depending on what size frames you want to use. The width will need to be increased from 1-3/4” to 2-1/3”.
