Hi all this will be my first winter with a hive. Got the hive during summer and I am at Currumbin.
Do people in Northern NSW / SE QLD leave the super on or off during winter? Two frames in the flow hive super are full and the other frames are around half full.
Even though it probably depends on your local microclimate, folks to the south in Byron Bay as well as to the north in Brisbane and Sunshine Coast mostly seem to advocate leaving it on. If there is consistent nectar flow all winter then you should be good with it on. I don’t think it gets cold enough there to worry about the bees clustering and leaving the queen behind to freeze with the queen excluder in place.
