Hello. This is my new hive

Hi from the Snowy Mountains in NSW. I am totally new to beekeeping. My new hive in location. It faces NE and is protected from the worst of the westerlies by the shed. We will also put a clear barricade on the NW to protect it a bit more. This spot will get winter sun most of the day and afternoon shade in summer.
Bees come in a few weeks.

Welcome to the forum and to beekeeping, Chris.

It’s a late start in the season, but certainly doable. Concentrate on building your colony up for winter. I recommend buying one or two ideal sized boxes and frames for the bees to store honey for their winter stash.

Learn all you can about varroa and American foul brood (AFB) and other pests and diseases. It’s the doom and gloom side of beekeeping, but knowledge is power. The more you know, the greater your success.

I would steer clear of the “treatment free” movement until you gain some skills, otherwise you can quickly lose your enthusiasm replacing dead colonies.

Most importantly, have fun and be curious. Beekeeping is one of those pursuits where you will never know it all and therefore, will always have something to learn.
