Hi
I have just brought home my new nuc of bees, it is really windy is it ok to wait for a better day to transfer? the daily temps are low 30s. Would the plastic nuc box be too hot?

Hi and welcome Dian! With temps plenty warm I wouldn’t worry too much about the wind. Try to set everything up ahead of the transfer and get a helper so you can move thru the process most efficiently. I’ve delayed a transfer due to weather but not by more than a day or so because I don’t think the bees can really circulate the air through those nuc boxes very well, and the longer they’re confined in there the closer they will get to swarm prep. Which, by the way, is something to keep in mind - with the goal of a quick transfer you don’t want to spend time looking at each frame closely, but do check for signs of swarm prep and general health in your first inspection a week or so afterward.
Good luck and tell us how it goes!
