We have just purchased a FlowHive and purchased Linseed oil to stain it.
The product we used was suggested to us by Bunnings. Now that we have stained it my husband has done a search and it looks like this product is not ok to use.
We are now in panic mode and not sure what to do. Can anyone shed some light on this for me and offer any suggestion of what to do now if this is not ok?
Hi & welcome to the forum.
After some research myself, it appears that you can paint over it with an oil based undercoat after the oil has dried, as well as a light sanding. I paint water based paint over oil base undercoat after it has thoroughly dried, and lightly sanded.
I’m always a fan of white paint for beehives, on account that it’s a cooler color, which helps the bees. You can always do some artwork over the white paint, similar to what the Flow people do.
