Mushrooms, mycelium, and bees

Oh wow… thanks for that. That’s more of a shrub then. Mine were kept at 30cm high in a window sill pot, made from cuttings I pinched.

Change of strategy then. I’m going to plant them as a hedge around my veggie garden, and will grow more from cuttings. They’ll be irrigated there.

Thanks again.

I saw a really good video about them once- where the gandener planted one at the head of every rom in his veggie patch- he had bees and wanted to encourage the bees to go down each row. I’ll see if I can find it…

Just found this, about to take a look at videos. Wish I could grow perennial basil here! I’ve been wondering, not quite but somewhat related to the topic, is why I saw a group of about ten bees trying to collect algae that’s growing on the side of my camper the other day? Going to google it of course, but wanted to see if anyone else here knows something about bees liking algae & why.

Oh! And Dawn, I found a lovely big puffball a few weeks ago & we ate it sautéed with wine & garlic on a couple of steaks :yum:

Is it sticky? They may be using it as propolis if it is.

so annoying- I can’t find that video now. I really wanted to use it for a project I plan to do to get people to plant basil to help pollinators. The video had an australian beekeeper and gardener explaining why he thinks the basil is brilliant for the bees- and the garden. He had basically come to the same conclusions as me independently.

I did find these videos though:

Any mycophiles out there who can identify if this is medicinal reishi (for bees)? Growing on the dead roots of a maple stump.

Sure looks like one to me! Best to get an in-person confirmation of course, but your specimen is a polypore and has other features of a reishi, plus growing from a maple stump.
