NZ Native bees - small, solitary and under threat

…they must be under pressure from the huge numbers of bumblebees too …it would be hard to quantify each of any of the causes of decline I guess, with modern intensive farming practices and all sorts of introduced animals. Our brushtail possums are doing extremely well there too as I understand it…they’ve got to be eating native bee food plants.

The brush tail possums do extremely well, and in turn end up as cosy socks, beanies, gloves, and scarves… Turns out NZ has no native mammals so the possum has no real predator to contend with.

I can’t comment on if they have a detrimental impact on native bees.
