Secondhand flow hive/frames for sale, UK

Good morning Richard.

I can’t do a private message on my phone for some reason. I have no icon for doing so . I’m sending you my email address so you can contact me and we can arrange a time to meet and collect your flow hive . Shazzalt@icloud.com

Kind regards

:warning: Please be aware – there have been a lot of fraudsters posting on the UK Flow Hive Facebook group, posing as sellers offering Flow Hives. Always double-check before sending money, and if in doubt, ask for proof or use a secure payment method. I rather pay in person on pick up. Something you can bear that in mind.

Hi Richard,

I’m looking to modify an old WBC hive that I have to take Flow Frames, but before I jump in and buy a bunch of Flow Frames I was looking to get hold of just one Flow Frame so that I can play with it, take out some sections to change the length, etc..

Would you be willing to sell just one Flow Frame? I’m in England, not far from Thetford, Norfolk and I’m not a time waster….

Look forward to hearing from you

All the best

Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the Flow forum!

I am not based in the UK any more (but I did work in Kings Lynn for a year!), so I can’t help you directly. We had WBC hives in the UK too. I do have a couple of thoughts which may help you.

  1. As you may know, most Flow frames are the same length and height as Langstroth deep frames. If you can get your hands on a standard wood Langstroth deep frame, that could give you a starting point if you are considering adapting to Langstroth sizing.

  2. For a while, Flow did market British National sized Flow frames. As you know, the inner boxes of WBC hives are the same dimensions as British National. If nobody here can help you, you could contact Flow directly at info@honeyflow.com with your questions. If they still make those frames, they will be able to give you dimensions etc. They are very helpful and responsive, even if it can take a few days because of time zones. When you are waiting for their reply, check your spam filter regularly, as many email programs seem to divert their messages to spam/junk.

Please ask if we can help any more, but I would strongly suggest contacting Flow as well

hi chris
sorry about the delay. yes, i can do you one frame. i’ve actually got one thats already popped out of its cables if thats any use? save me putting it back together. you probably already know they’re made of repeated plastic units held together by a couple of steel cables, i think it’ll be pretty easy to change the length by adding/subtracting units, the harder bit will be getting cable length right. i’ve not had a proper look but i don’t think they’re intended to be adjustable.
for more general info, i’ve pretty much given up on selling these frames now, been a bit too much faff & i’m considering trying again to incorporate them into my current setup. so probably should’ve deleted this post really, but hey, looks like it might be useful having it still up at the moment…

Hi Dawn,

Apologies for the slow response and thank you for your suggestions

I did reach out to Flow Hive and they suggested posting on here as they no longer supply National size Flow frames…

After thinking about the all the changes I would have to make I have decided to leave my WBC hive as is and purchase a complete Flow Hive for Christmas!

I’ll do a split in the spring, let than run for a year and then decide if I modify my WBC hive to use Flow frames or just go for another Flow Hive…

Thanks again

Chris

Hi Richard,

Many thanks for your response, as you can see from my reply to Dawn I have decided to keep my WBC as is and purchase a complete Flow Hive.

However I’m still interested in converting a Flow frame to fit into a WBC/National, so how much would you want for your “popped out” Flow frame? As I said I’m in Norfolk, so please price to include postage…

Look forward to hearing from you.

All the best

Chris
